Lécher les Vitrines, Paris (part two)

I was walking along the cobbled streets of Rue de Montorgueil, my tummy filled with lovely pastries from Stohrer, when I remembered that G. Detou was supposedly close by.  Don’t I sound like a gourmand with all this name dropping? The truth is I had no idea these amazing stores existed until I read about them in a travel magazine. An inflight magazine. Whilst on my flight to Paris.

The picture above is from G. Detou, the store name a pun on “J’ai de tout” which translates to “I have everything”. From what I could see from their window display, they are true to their name.  Here’s a translation:

  • graisse d’oie – goose fat
  • graisse de canard – duck fat
  • confit de canard des Landes, 2 cuisses – 2 thighs of duck confit
  • garbure Landaise – cabbage soup (a special recipe from Landes)
  • boudin du pays – blood pudding
  • confit de porc – pork confit
  • saucisses pur pork – pork sausages
  • salmis de palombes – pigeon stew
  • veloute au foie gras de canard – cream sauce with duck foie gras
  • ris de veau – calf sweetbreads

Here are some more window displays, most of them from around the same area, which according to my magazine article is where “chefs come to get their supplies for everything”.
